Basing House
I am looking for information. If anybody has any please contact me.
Going through the burial records for Coates I have encountered references to Basing House, Whittlesey. I should like to know where it was and if it is still standing (but under a different name).
The following people were there for a short or long period. The date given is the year of their burial; they would have died a few days before. The last number is their age.
1920 Nov 10 THOMPSON Elizabeth of Basing House Whittlesey 93
1924 Feb 25 FLETCHER Mary Ann Hughes of Basing House Whittlesey 72
1925 Oct 19 ANDERSON Thomas of Basing House Whittlesey 74
1926 Aug 6 TYERS Sarah of Basing House Whittlesey 82
1932 Mar 18 ASHWORTH Eliza of Basing House Whittlesey 73
1932 Jul 11 MERCHANT John Mead of Basing House Whittlesey 81
It strikes me it could have been some kind of convalescence home and it appears to have been active in the early part of the 20th century. A strong possibility is that it was the Informary associated with the Workhouse.
