Ages of the Coates population
The average (mean) age was 22 whilst the median age was 15. The modal age was 20 so it appears that the population were quite young. Living to an old age was, perhaps, not to be expected given the lack of health care we enjoy these days. also the large families which were common meant there were plenty of young people about to lower the average age.

Occupations in Coates in1841
As would be expected, farming was the main source of work around Coates. 89 Agricultural Labourers are listed but - according to the instructions for enumerators - the profession, etc., of wives, or of sons or daughters with their husbands or parents, and assisting them, but not apprenticed or receiving wages, need not be set down. One can be certain that there were plenty of 'Ag. Labs.' aged under 15 and many of them would have been girls.
