I have uploaded News topics for 1930-1932. Nothing very exciting though!

I spent a good few hours at Northampton Record Office today looking at the Baptism records for the Peterborough Methodist Circuit which included Coates Chapel. They hold these volumes:
The Peterborough Circuit covers a wide area of the city and that includes Wentworh Street Methodist Church (which was demolished quite a few years ago) where my parents married and my aunt was Baptised - I was delighted to find the date of her baptism. All in all it was a good day although the engine warning light in my car came on during the trip home. I have uploaded a list of the 124 people who were related to me (in some way, and sometimes quite remotely) and who are buried in the churchyard.
I was quite surprised how many there were and I do not now think I shall be looking for their burial locations if I have not already found their headstones! I am quite busy editing the Journal for the Peterborough and District Family History Society but I have had time today to locate all the Ashworths in the cemetery at Coates. All 40 or so of them are relations of mine (some only by marriage of course). There were three I could not match to my Ancestry Tree so I have sent off for Birth Certificates.
My next task - over the coming weeks - will be to locate where they are buried. That's easy if they have a headstone. If they do not I will have to look at the original plot maps I scanned when I visited the church. This is how I worked out where William and Eliza are buried. I shall then need to start on other names which occur in my tree. The Fletchers and Carters are two families I expect to find as cousins (albeit a few times removed) but I should think I am related to at least 100 folk in the cemetery! I must find out from Weebly how to reply to blog posts. Their help screen says there is a reply button but I am blowed if I can see it. I suppose I could log out and comment like any other user but that seems daft. Anyway thank you Martin for your comment to the previous post.
I just popped in to change my password. I have been busy on other projects so this OPS has been neglected lately. Apologies to my reader.
Life has been awkward recently what with my third operation of the year this Tuesday past. However, before I went into hospital I did go to Peterborough Library and trawl through the Advertisers for 1926-1929 which I have now put up on the site.
I have tidied up the navigation a little and removed a few tabs, placing the church tab in a more obvious place.
I have been away for a few days, mainly to attend the York Postcard Expo. Although I did not find many Coates cards there it filled a day and there were plenty of images on Peterborough, my home town. It is amazing to see how it has changed.
I do recommened One-Placers to seek out postcards because many of them show what the churchyard used to look like years ago. For instance, if you go to March now the churchyard is completely cleared but I have seen images how how it used to look. |
